Elmgren lasting legacy

A couple from Swift Current will forever have their names etched into southwest Sask. medical history.

The Dr. Noble Irwin Regional Healthcare Foundation recently received a more than significant donation left by Rodney and Dorothy Elmgren.

Rodney, who grew up north of Scotsguard passed away in September of 2023 and Dorothy, who was born in Bradford, England passed in December of 2020.

The Elmgrens chose to leave a legacy for their community, friends, and family by selecting the Dr. Noble Irwin Regional Healthcare Foundation to purchase equipment for the Cypress Regional Hospital in Swift Current.

“They were humble people; you would have never known they had this kind of money. They were not people who went out and showed off, they were very humble”. Said Fran Schroh, a long-time friend and neighbour to the Elmgrens. She also was their executor for the estate.

“If you’re going to do a charitable donation, do it somewhere where it’s personal. Where it’s going to benefit people that you know,” Schroh said in a conversation with Rodney.

The couple were said to have a passion for their community, farming, and travelling, especially back to England every year. They spent over 60 years together before retiring to their home in Swift Current and later to Willow Creek Manor.

“This is a real blessing,” said Schroh regarding the Elmgren’s donation of over $4 million.

The Cypress Regional Hospital will also house a plaque featuring the couple’s two wedding rings connected as part of their bequest.

A generous act such as this happens once in a lifetime, if even. The funds will go to help improve many aspects of the hospital and will continue to benefit community members for many years to come.
